Case Studies in Success
The woman is 33 years old and lives with her husband and four children in a family house in a village outside of Moshi. Her children are all in school expect of her baby of 1 ½ year, the other children are in the ages 12 years, 11 years and 4 years. Her husband is present but has continuous health problems. Because of this he is doing some part time jobs but is not a reliable source of income for the family. In the past she had a large capital and used to sell shoes in Arusha buying them from a nearby market. When she was conducting this business she was able to support her family and pay for the children’s school fees. When her husband became sick they had to use her capital for medical bills. At present she is selling bananas, she buys a bucket for 1000 TSH and sells at 1500 TSH. Her transport is 200 TSH per bucket. She sells approximately three buckets per day, which gives her a profit of 900 TSH per day (less then 1 USD). Her wish is to restart her old business of selling shoes on market days which is four days per week. She also wants to sell vegetables at a small stall in her village, with help from a relative in the neighborhood so that the stall can be opened everyday.
