The woman is 26 years old and lives in a suburb to Moshi. She cohabited with a man for 5 years and they have three children together. The children are 5 years, 3 years and 1 year old. During this time her husband was working for a Water Supply company in the region. One day the husband disappeared due to stealing from his employer and has not been seen since, this was in December 2007. The client lives with her children in a rented room. When we meet the client in February 2008 she was desperate and rent for the last month was not paid. She did not have anyone to help her and was afraid to be evicted from the apartment with her children. She used to sell vegetable; which provided her with enough money to support her family, but without her husbands salary she did not have any capital. At present she did not have any solution to her problems and was begging from various people in the streets. We promised to provide her with a loan of about 20,000 TSH (approximately 20 USD), for her to be able to pay rent and restart her business selling vegetables again. We gave her basic education on how to start a business and keep track of expenses. The woman is working hard for her business to work and is doing an amazing job. She comes for visits once a week for further training and counseling. After a month she was able to pay her own rent and sustain herself and her children with the profit from her business.
